He was 102.<\/p>\n<p>He was, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/02\/07\/arts\/irwin-corey-comedian-and-foremost-authority-dies-at-102.html?hpw&rref=obituaries&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=well-region&region=bottom-well&WT.nav=bottom-well&_r=0\">New York Times\u00a0wrote<\/a>, \u201ca caricature of every windbag who ever emptied his lungs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Along with five of his young siblings, he became a ward of the Brooklyn Hebrew Orphan Asylum.<\/p><html><div id=\"lightbox-inline-form-9fad5317-cc1f-4c75-869d-4249b53b851a\"><\/div>\r\n<div id=\"lightbox-inline-form-8eaf9ca1-0df5-46d3-b00e-5af82833377d\"><\/div>\r\n<div id=\"lightbox-inline-form-f7e91d8e-6381-4dc6-b7d7-09a05defdd2e\"><\/div>\r\n <div id=\"lightbox-inline-form-7ffa4c37-60be-4536-a0e6-68b4ac1c2d24\" style=\"text-align: center\"><\/div><\/html>\n<p>A busy actor, he once portrayed Jesus in a play in Boston, which he called \u201ca piece of typecasting for a short Jewish atheist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p>Democrats in the House of Representatives yesterday failed in an effort to pass a resolution that criticizes the White House for not mentioning the Jewish people in its recent statement recognizing International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/democrats-try-to-shame-gop-over-white-house-holocaust-statement\/article\/2614155#.WJolDJCy2G0.twitter\">Washington Examiner reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe White House was wrong on this,\u201d said House Democratic Conference Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY). \u201cIt is true that not all the victims were Jews. But all the Jews were victims.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Led by Crowley, Democrats tried to force the House to vote on a resolution that called on the White House \u201cto affirm that the Nazi regime targeted the Jewish people in its perpetration of the Holocaust.\u201d More than 100 House Democrats co-sponsored the measure. But Republicans rejected the Democrats\u2019 plan in a party-line vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Trump administration doubled down and defended its statement, despite many pointing out the consequences of such inaccuracies,\u201d said Crowley, referring to a report that the White House intentionally did not mention Jews, an allegation the Trump administration denies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Reports that \u201cWhite House Svengali\u201d Steve Bannon, a top advisor to President Trump, once referred to the American Jewish community as \u201cenablers of Islamic jihad,\u201d has\u00a0revived accusations that the former Breitbart News publisher is an anti-Semite, Andrew Silow-Carroll <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jta.org\/2017\/02\/07\/news-opinion\/opinion\/bannon-and-the-jews-a-conditional-kind-of-love\">writes on JTA.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn its face the accusation \u2026is weak,\u201d Carroll writes. \u201cBannon\u2019s point about jihad\u2019s \u2018enablers\u2019 is not that Jews share an ideology with the jihadists but the opposite: As a largely liberal community, American Jews support civil liberties and immigrants\u2019 rights \u2014 creating a climate, so goes the argument, that even with\u00a0the best of intentions supposedly allows terrorists to thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Breitbart, \u201cJewish\u201d is\u00a0synonymous with \u201cliberal,\u201d according to the writer.\u00a0 \u201cTrump bought into the good\u00a0Jews-bad Jews view of the world in picking David Friedman as his ambassador to Israel \u2026 what troubles so many Jews, including some Jewish Republicans, is the deeply conditional nature of a support that says \u2018If you\u2019re with me, I\u2019m with you.\u2019 It\u2019s \u2026 the ideological version of two of the weakest defenses in\u00a0the accused bigot\u2019s arsenal: \u2018Some of my best friends are Jewish\u2019 and \u2018I have Jewish grandchildren.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If all goes as planned, an Israeli delegation of Jewish and Arab youth movement leaders will head to the Greek island of Lesbos next week to help establish educational and social programs there for young Syrian refugees, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/israel-news\/.premium-1.770230\">according to Haaretz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTeaming up in the effort will be two youth movements \u2013 Zionist-socialist Hashomer Hatzair and the Arab Ajyal group \u2013 who have a long history of cooperation, though never in something quite like this,\u201d Haaretz reports.
