Hatzoloh of Rockland County, which serves a number of large Orthodox communities near New York City, said it had responded to more calls lately from people with COVID-like symptoms.
Left unchecked, the increasing number have the potential to turn next month’s gatherings in schools and synagogues into superspreader events, leaders say.
“When we have something that’s so simple to do and there’s so much on the line for it, it’s quite frustrating when the numbers are low,” one Borough Park Jewish leader said.
