JERUSALEM (JTA) — Hamas has canceled its weekly March of Return demonstration on the border with Gaza for a third consecutive week.

The organizing committee of the march said the cancellation did not reflect a new agreement between Gaza terror organizations and Israel, but that it was concerned about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu escalating violence at the border in order to help his political situation, Haaretz reported.

The Hamas-run demonstrations had taken place each week for more than a year.

The committee’s statement also said that the protests will be back and that “the March of Return will continue to be part of a non-violent popular struggle.”

This week’s protests had planned to mark the anniversary of the U.N. General Assembly vote that led to the creation of the State of Israel.
