There’s no denying it. Some stories from the Torah are straight-up disturbing. Often, in Hebrew schools and synagogues, people push these stories into the background, focusing instead on more easily understandable (and less shiver-inducing) parts. However, a new animated web series, Unbelievably Messed-Up Bible Stories, brings the uneasiness and the creepiness to the forefront.
“Cain and Abel” uses a parody of The Flintstones to introduce the First Family of creation, and then sets the siblings against each other in a bloody fight. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah starts out innocently enough, with a giant glow meant to represent God. Then: “Did you just offer your two virgin daughters for sex to a couple of men outside?” an angel asks Lot. The shocked look on his animated face resembles what a priest or rabbi would look like after seeing these videos.
For families and those who prefer their biblical interpretations less raunchy, there’s always our friends at G-dcast. But if you don’t mind a little bit of cursing, and a whole lot of adult scenarios, check out these videos.
