The cutting-edge clothing store Urban Outfitters just released the photo spreads for their new spring catalogue, and if some of the background locations look a little familiar, well, there’s a reason for that–the photos were shot in Israel.
In some ways, the Holy Land is a natural fit for Urban’s urban sensibility. The recent Jerusalem 2111 contest asserted that it was a “city of tomorrow.” And Tel Aviv, which just celebrated its centennial, is known to be a city on the cutting edge of cultural hipness. It’s also growing in popularity as an international hub; it was one of Lonely Planet’s Top 10 Cities for 2011.
So if that new trendy sundress you’re checking out is flanked by some of Tel Aviv’s avant garde architecture, or if the person modeling it is wearing an Orthodox-style headcovering, don’t be too surprised. After all, Jews have known about Israel’s coolness for a few thousand years.
