The holiday of Sukkot starts at sunset tonight.
This year, a competition called Sukkah City asked people to creatively explore the idea of a sukkah–and to reimagine the ancient hut in new, creative ways. Twelve entries were chosen, and those sukkahs were constructed in a park in the center of New York City.
But what is a sukkah? This new video introduces us to some of the Sukkah City finalists…and some astonished onlookers. They explain the unique rules of making a sukkah–for instance, you’re allowed to construct a sukkah atop a camel’s back–and the features and factoids that make a sukkah a sukkah.
