Mordechai Louk, the Israeli who was released last November by Italian customs officials at a Rome airport from a trunk which Egyptian diplomats were attempting to ship to Cairo, went on trial in District Court here today on charges of crossing illegally into Egypt and handing over secrets to Israel’s enemy. Following the prosecution statement, the courtroom was cleared and the hearing of witnesses begun. The trial is expected to last ten days.
