Three leading American authorities in the field of mental health today left for Israel under the auspices of the American Fund for Israel Institutions and at the invitation of the Israel Health Ministry to survey mental health problems in the Jewish state.
The three specialists are Dr. Dale C. Cameron, assistant director of the National Institute of Mental Health, U.S. Public Health Service; Dr. M. Ralph Kaufman, chief psychiatrist, Mt. Sinai Hospital, and Dr. Paul Friedman, co-chairman of the American Advisory Committee on Mental Health in Israel. Upon their return, they will render a report to the American Advisory Committee as a basis for formulating a program by which American medical skill and material-aid may be rendered to Israel in the execution of the new state’s overall mental health program.
At Lake Success, Dr. Howeard Rusk, famous U.S. authority on physical rehabilitation, told a U.N. press group that he had invited Israel to send a team of experts to the United States to study latest methods in rehabilitating disabled civilians and war veterans. The Israel Government may acquire this service directly through the Bellevue clinic in New York or through the United Nations.
