The Yorkville contingent of William Dudley Pelley’s Silver Shirts held a “closed” membership meeting last night in the dingy basement of the Turn Verein at 152 East Eighty-fifth street.
Aside from taking the names and addresses of the 100 or so men and women, many of whom spoke German, the principal business of the evening was the sale of Silver Shirt literature. The propaganda material enjoyed a brisk sale. Among the items being sold was an envelope containing membership application blanks leaflets, back numbers of the Silver Ranger and Liberation, recently suspended publication, and a copy of Representative Louis T. McFadden’s anti-Semitic speech.
