The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom elected as its chairman Rabbi David Saperstein, the director of the Reform movement’s Religious Action Center. The move came during the commission’s first meeting Monday. The nine- member commission was created last year to advise the president on possible U.S. responses to religious persecution around the world.
