The Interfaith Task Force on Soviet Jewry marked Human Rights Weekend here with prayers on behalf of Prisoners of Conscience in the Soviet Union and a special call for the release of jailed activist Anatoly Shcharansky. The Task Force, comprised of various church and synagogue groups, also appealed to the World Council of Churches to register a protest against Soviet violations of the Helsinki agreements and the rights of Soviet Jews. The Task Force was responding to an appeal by McGill University professor Irving Cotler who has been acting as Shcharansky’s legal counsel.
