The European Parliament, acting on a motion by French Deputy Simone Veil, has asked the European Economic Community (EEC) to intervene with the Syrian government to obtain information about four missing Israeli soldiers, believed held captive by Syrian forces or by militia under Syrian control. The soldiers were captured near Sidon and in the Syrian-occupied Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon over a four-year period.
