Tactics being employed by Nazi provocateurs in the Middle West were exposed here following the announcement that former Judge Samuel B. Schein, president of the local B’nai B’rith and long prominent in Jewish communal affairs in Madison was a member of a committee arranging for a lecture here by Douglas Brinkley, who is touring this part of the country with lectures on “the New Germany.”
When questioned about the report that he was one of Brinkley’s sponsors, Judge Schein said:
“That is the first I hear of the matter. I know nothing about it.”
Judge Schein had been cited as representing the Steuben Society, of which he is a member, in arranging for the speech.
A Chicago lecture scheduled for Mr. Brinkley was canceled when anti-Nazi organizations protested.
