Severe criticism of the State Department’s decision to grant free munitions to Iraq was voiced here during the week-end by Dr. Emanuel Neumann, member of the Jewish Agency executive, at a reception tendered by the Zionist Organization of America to Joseph Saphir, Israel Minister of Communications.
“Not a single informed and unbiased observer of Middle East affairs has come up with a convincing defense of the proposed arming of Arab states by our government, ” Dr. Neumann said. “Not one of the Arab states ever struck a blow in defense of the democratic cause during the last World War; not one of them will do so in the event of a new global war. They want our arms not to repel aggression, but to commit aggression. They are not planning to fight an external enemy; they want to fight Israel. That is their target. This is openly avowed by Arab pashas and potentates and they leave no one in doubt about their objective. “
