Extensive drilling for oil near Hebron will be started shortly by the Standard Oil Company of New York, according to the New York Hefald. The rights to drill for oil were granted two years ago by the Mandated Government of Palestine.
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency report to the effect that oil had been discovered near Hebron could not be confirmed a few days ago, and has now been denied by officials of the company. But, says the Herald, it is learned that there will soon be a resumption of activities of the Standard Oil Company of New York in that territory, which had been curtailed by the outbreak of the war.
