Lazar Kaganovitch, the Jewish brother-in-law of Joseph Stalin, once a needle trade worker in Russia, today entered upon his new duties as Commissar for Transport in the Soviet Union.
Mr. Kaganovitch is one of the outstanding statesmen in Soviet Russia. He has been considered Stalin’s right-hand man for the last five years. He succeeds Andrei Andreyev who has been appointed secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist party, a post similar to the one held by Stalin himself.
