Anti-Jewish excesses lasting through the night occurred in the Bessarabian towns of Ungheni and Pittesti, according to radio reports from Bucharest received here. Sixteen Jews were wounded.
At Ungheni the Jews were innocently participating in a Maccabean sport festival when the hooligans broke in.
At Pittesti a garden party was in progress when the hooligans invaded. Windows in Jewish homes nearby were shattered and the homes also damaged otherwise.
The message conveying the news of the disturbances came by radio owing to the refusal or the government postoffices to accept telegrams reporting the disturbances.
