The Scarsdale Golf Club, which was the center of controversy last week when it was disclosed that the club had barred a young man from a dance on the grounds that he was born Jewish, announced last night that, from now on any member is free to invite any guest to the club.
The announcement, issued in the form of a bulletin to all members over the signature of the club’s president, Charles S. McAllister, followed an attack on the bias incident by the Rev, George F. Kempsell, rector of the Episcopal Church of St. James the Less. The victim of the incident was Michael Hernstadt, son of a Jewish father and a Roman Catholic mother, who had intended to escort to the dance, the daughter of a member of the club.
