Samuel J. Borowsky, a prominent American Zionist and a leading Jewish educator, died while on a visit to Israel yesterday at the age of 71. He was general secretary and a former president of the National Association for Jewish Education, in New York, and had also served as executive chairman and president of Young Judea.
Born in Russia, Mr. Borowsky came to the United States in 1903 and served in various education posts in New York and other cities. He had served as director of the Israel-American Exchange Teachers Program and was a former president of the Histadruth Ivrith of America. He was one of the organizers of the World Hebrew Congress in Jerusalem in 1950 and was active in the Jewish Welfare Board and the B’nai Zion fraternal order.
