Salt water has been found usable for irrigation of sugar beet and cotton fields in Israel, it was officially announced here today. If further experimentation should show results similar to those already achieved, the scientists said, “considerable quantities” of salt waters now unsuitable will become available, for irrigation purposes.
(In Chicago, David Karr, president of Fairbanks Whitney corporation, said that development of equipment for use in the water desalination process developed by Israeli scientist Alexander Zarchin was ahead of schedule. The company signed an agreement last year with the Israel Government for the manufacture and sale of the Zarchin process which combines distillation with flash freezing to de-salt water.)
