Salim L. Lewis, investment banker and philanthropic leader, was elected president of the Federation of Philanthropies of New York tonight at a meeting of the Federation’s board of trustees. He succeeds Milton Weill, who headed the organization for the past three years.
Mr. Lewis has been active in Federation work for years, serving most recently as chairman of the Federation’s Wall Street Division. He has also been a leader in the industry’s efforts in behalf of the American Red Cross and other welfare groups.
Other Federation officers elected tonight were James Felt, Gustave Levy, Leon Lowenstein and Harry Zeitz vice-president; Milton Steinbach, assistant treasurer; and Lawrence Freeman, secretary.
