Police at Oradea Mare, in Transylvania, today arrested a Nazi who had been posing as a Jew for over a year.
The Nazi, Ludwig Muellaner, a former supervisor at the Birkenau death camp and a member of the Gestapo, had been using the identification papers of Joseph Haas, who emigrated to Palestine. Muellaner had enscouced himself in local politics, winning a reputation as a democrat, and held an important post in a local business firm where he also won himself a reputation as a democrat.
The police authorities have announced that they have launched an investigation to determine which government officials handed over Paas’ surrendered documents to the Nazi.
