The discovery of the remains of the ancient palace of King Herod in Massada, a water system in that area and a number of ancient Corynthian obelisks was announced here this week-end by Shmarya Gutman, an amateur archaeologist who lives at Kibbutz Naan.
The Hebrew University and the Israel Government Department of Archaeology have announced a plan for an excavation plan in the area to be undertaken jointly by all youth movements on a volunteer basis. Work will be started this winter by a permanent scientific force stationed in the Massada area, and the youth groups will furnish a new crew of volunteers every two weeks to assist the scientists.
