Rabbi Israel Miller was elected yesterday as chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. He succeeds Jacob Stein, who served two one-year terms as Conference chairman. Rabbi Miller is president of the American Zionist Federation, vice-president for student affairs of Yeshiva University and Rabbi Emeritus of the Kingsbridge Heights Jewish Center of the Bronx.
Rabbi Miller, who is also a former president of the Rabbinical Council of America and of the American Jewish Conference on Soviet Jewry, and is a member of the Executive of the World Zionist Organization Executive and a member of the Board of Governors of the Jewish Agency was elected by acclamation at a plenary meeting of the Presidents Conference. The election followed a unanimous recommendation of the nominations committee chaired by Rabbi Arthur Hertzberg, president of the American Jewish Congress.
