After a short-lived reign as head of one of Europe’s wealthiest and most influential dynasties, Otto Petschek died in a sanatorium here yesterday.
Petschek succeeded to dominance of the widely disseminated and extensive family interests in February, when Ignatz Petschek, seventy-seven-year-old patriarch of the powerful Czechoslovakian clan, died in Aussig, Bohemia.
Ignatz, one of three brothers who founded what eventually grew into an international web of mining and chemical enterprises, helped found the Petschek and Company Bank in Prague in 1920. He gave away several millions in philanthropies.
Among other interests the family controls the I. Petschek lignite firm in Aussig and has mines and chemical plants in Czechoslovakia, Poland, Germany and Austria.
