A protest against the action of the Maniu government, in forcing through legislation, despite the protest of Jewish leaders in Roumania, affecting the unity of Jewish communal life in that country, was submitted to the Roumanian Minister in Paris, Diamandy, by the Committee of Jewish Delegations.

The declaration expresses surprise at the fact that the Maniu government has ignored its promises, given to the Jewish population of Roumania during the recent elections and has sponsored a bill for the regulation of Jewish communal life, without consulting the leaders of the Jewish population. The bill threatens the unity of Roumanian Jewry, and has evoked their unanimous opposition. The government has rejected the proposals to convoke a special Jewish conference on the subject. Other governments, such as the German, Polish, Latvian, Esthonian, and Bulgarian, have adopted the principle of a united Jewish community, which resulted to the benefit of all concerned, the memorandum points out, expressing the hope that the government will reconsider its decision.
