Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel warned President Clinton that NATO and the U.S. military “will have to serve as a kind of living buffer” between the Serbs and Kosovars to “prevent a bloodbath.” Sent by the president as a special envoy to visit refugee camps in Macedonia and Albania, Wiesel told reporters after reporting back to Clinton on Wednesday that he had encountered “terrible sadness, agony and hatred” in the camps.
