The National Jewish Welfare Board today reported that Lt. David Zuckerman, 27, of Brooklyn, N.Y. is the holder of thirteen medals. He has received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 10 Oak Leaf Clusters, and Purple Heart, for meritorious service and gallantry in the European area.
Based in Italy, Lt. Zuckerman completed 50 missions as navigator on a Flying Fortress, piling up a total of 238 hours in combat over enemy territory. On one occasion, in the midst of a fierce serial battle over Regensburg, he took care of injured fellow crewmen while continuing to navigate the Fort. On another, Zuckerman himself was wounded by flak in the leg and shoulder.
