New England Zionists to Support Lipsky Administration at Convention

Elihu D. Stone, president of the New England Zionist Region, and the entire New England Administration, will be behind the national Zionist administration and vote confidence in Mr. Louis Lipsky, president of the Zionist Organization of America, it was announced Wednesday, as a result of a resolution adopted by the convention of New England Zionists at Old Orchard Beach last Sunday.

Mr. Stone, in answer to statements circulated by the Associated Press that he would lead a movement to return Justice Louis D. Brandeis and Judge Julian Mack to leadership, was emphatic in declaring that sabotage and internal strife within the Zionist movement is dangerous at this critical period of American Zionism. More than thirty-five delegates from New England are leaving for the Zionist convention in Atlantic City with instructions to vote confidence in the national Zionist administration.

The presence of Mr. Louis Lipsky and Mr. Abraham Goldberg at the New England convention has clarified the situation. Justice Brandeis and Judge Mack, declared Mr. Stone, are not candidates for any office in the Zionist movement and he is therefore not a party to the misuse of their names in any political controversy. Former friends of the Brandeis administration in Boston who are now actively interested in the Zionist Organization are likewise backing the national administration.

Mr. Elihu D. Stone has been re-elected president of the New England Zionist Region. The other officers elected are: Judge David A. Lourie. honorary president; Benjamin Rabalsky, treasurer; Joseph B. Abrams, secretary; Mendel N. Fisher, executive secretary; Max Shoolman, Edward Cohen. Benjamin F. Evarts, George E. Gordon, Judge Max L. Pinansky, Louis Shapiro, David R. Radovsky, Elder Markson, Peter Leavitt and Isaac Harris, vice-presidents.

A report of the proceedings of the New England Zionist convention held in Portland, Maine, relates that Louis Lipsky, president of the Zionist Organization of America, in his address delivered at the convention, challenged what he termed the “whispering campaign,” in certain Zionist quarters. He declared that the Zionist Organization of America will not permit some of the workers of the United Palestine Appeal to exploit their position in carrying on a sabotage against the interests of the Zionist Organization. Many who employ the name of Justice Louis D. Brandeis do so without his consent, Mr. Lipsky stated. He expressed the hope that the Atlantic City Zionist convention will bring about unity in Zionist ranks.
