Dr. Karl Tuppa, former head of the Anthropological Institute of the University of Vienna, who was the final arbiter as to whother an Austrian was a Jew or a non-Jew according to Nazi racial theories, has been arrested, the Austrian news agency reports.
Tuppa, who had been masquerading as a game-keeper since Austria’s liberation, was paid 170 marks by the Nazis for each case he decided. He admitted at a preliminary hearing that in at least fifty percent of the cases he decided against the person whose accestry was in question, sometimes basing his judgments only on photographs.
