Mordechai Bernstein, editor of Der Wecker, Yiddish Socialist weekly, and secretary-general of the Yiddish Socialist Farband, died here today, aged 61. Born in Russia and active there and in Poland for years as a writer and organizer in the Bund, he was arrested by the Soviet Union’s regime during World War II, but went to Poland in 1946, then came to the United States two years later. He had contributed widely to Yiddish Socialist publications throughout the world.
