Monsignor Clemente Riva, a leading Roman Catholic figure in interreligious dialogue, died this week at the age of 77. Riva, who long served as President of the Diocesan Commission for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue in Rome, was active in arranging the historic 1986 meeting in Rome’s main synagogue between Pope John Paul II and Rome’s chief rabbi, Elio Toaff.
