Funeral services were held here for Meyer C. Ellenstein, a prominent Jewish dentist, attorney and the only Jew ever to serve as Mayor of Newark, who died at New York Hospital, White Plains, N. Y., at the age of 78. Dr. Joachim Prinz, who officiated at the funeral services, described Mr. Ellenstein as “a very warm human being, an unbelievably charming man and a man born to leadership.” Born in New York City, Mr. Ellenstein practiced dentistry and later law here and served as Newark’s Mayor from 1933 to 1941.
