For the first time in the history of this country the doctrine of anti-Semitism will be put to an open national political test, it was revealed today, when Louis T. McFadden, fanatical bigot whose Pennsylvania constituency repudiated him at the polls last November after he had served twenty years in Congress, announced his candidacy for President of the United States in 1936.
“Keep the Jew out of control of the Republican party!” is the slogan under which McFadden will strive to achieve the supreme honor open to an American citizen.
His organization has its headquarters here at the Mayflower Hotel, where the National Conference for Palestine just concluded its sessions yesterday.
John T. McAndrews, McFadden’s director of publicity, who in the past has been an associate of James F. True, head of America First! and white hope of many anti-Semites in this country, is sending out large sheaves of campaign material designed to appeal to any one with a spark of anti-Jewish prejudice in his bosom.
