Funeral services will be held here tomorrow for Kings County Surrogate Maximilian Moss, a prominent leader of the Brooklyn Jewish community, who died here yesterday at the age of 67. He was a former president of the New York City Board of Education.
Born in Brooklyn, Judge Moss spent his early childhood in Chattahooga, but returned to New York City where he attended New York University Law School at night while working as a railroad freight clerk. He practiced law until named to the bench.
At the time of his death. Judge Moss was president of the Jewish Culture Foundation of New York University. He was a founder and past president of the Brooklyn Jewish Community Council, which coordinates the activities of 850 organizations in that borough. He was chairman of the executive committee of the Jewish Hospital in Brooklyn, and a member of the board of directors of the Hospital Council of Greater New York. In 1961, he served as city wide chairman of the State of Israel Bond Drive.
