The League of Nations Mandates Commission opened its session today. Pierre Orts of Belgium, chairman, expressed satisfaction that Colonial Secretary Malcolm MacDonald of Britain would attend the session. His presence, said Prof. William Rappard of Switzerland, vice-chairman, should give the commission an opportunity for closer examination of Britain’s new Palestine policy.
This view was shared by M. Orts, who reported that many petitions had been submitted to the commission, most of them in regard to Palestine. These, he said, will be discussed at the end of the session. This morning’s session was attended by Jewish delegations which have come to Geneva to observe the deliberations on Palestine, but the Arab delegation was not present.
Dr. Ben-Zion Mossinsohn, Palestine Zionist leader, has arrived here to give explanations to the commission about the memorandum submitted by the Jewish National Council of Palestine. A delegation from the New Zionist Organization headed by A. Abrahams and Dr. Riebenfeld conferred with commission members as did delegations from Poland, Rumania, Turkey and others which discussed with commission members the background of illegal immigration into Palestine.
The commission is expected to consider the Palestine problem from next Wednesday until Saturday.
