A delegation repre- senting the International League Against Anti-Semitism and Racism (LICA) met yesterday with French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing. The meeting was held to mark the 50th anniversary of the predominantly Jewish organization and it was the second time in less than two weeks that Giscard had met with a Jewish delegation. Last week he conferred with nine French Jews at the Elysee Palace and later dined with them at an official banquet.
The head of the delegation, LICA President Jean Pierre-Bloch, said after the meeting that the President “has congratulated us on our activity and expressed the hope we shall continue it.” Pierre-Bloch said the delegation had raised with the French chief executive certain topical subjects “such as the difficult situation of Moslem workers in France.”
Though LICA predominantly deals with anti-Semitism it also actively fights other forms of discrimination and is currently trying to improve the condition of foreign workers in France. To mark its 50th anniversary. LICA is organizing a number of roundtable discussions dealing with racism in the Soviet Union, human rights all over the world and the apartheid regime in South Africa. Pierre-Bloch also serves as president of the French B’nai B’rith and heads the local Anti-Defamation League.
