Kofi Annan urged American Jews to support the newly created U.N. Human Rights Council. “We have an opportunity to make a fresh start in this vital area, not least because the council is required to conduct a regular review of the human rights record of all countries, beginning with its own members,” the U.N. secretary-general said in a statement delivered to a group from B’nai B’rith International on Monday by Angela Kane, an assistant secretary-general.
