The establishment of an automobile assembly company to produce 6,000 cars a year in Israel was disclosed today in a joint announcement by Arthur Lourie, Consul General of Israel, and Edgar F. Kaiser, president of the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation.
To be known as Kaiser-Frazer of Israel, Ltd., the new company has obtained a plant of 115,000 square feet in Haifa, where production is scheduled to begin in August, according to Mr. Kaiser. Initial production schedule of 6,000 Kaiser cars a year is based on a one-shift operation. American-made assembly equipment is now being rushed to the new plant and an American plant manager has been sent to Haifa. Technical supervisory personnel from the company’s Willow Run plant will be sent to train the more than 300 Israelis who will be employed in the new company, Mr. Kaiser stated.
