Judge Silver to Receive 1967 Hebrew University Award in New York

Judge Edward S. Silver of the Kings County Surrogate’s Court, will receive the 1967 Solomon Bublick Award of the Hebrew University, it was announced today by former Attorney General Nathaniel L. Goldstein, president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University. The award will be presented at a dinner in Judge Silver’s honor April 17 at the Plaza Hotel. William O. Douglas, Justice of the United States Supreme Court, will be the principal speaker.

The award is presented in alternate years to the person “who, during the two years preceding the award, has made the most significant contribution to the progress and development of Israel.” David Ben-Gurion was the first recipient in 1949. Americans previously honored include former President Harry S. Truman, former Governor Herbert H. Lehman and most recently, Robert Szold. Judge Silver is chairman of the Greater New York Committee for the State of Israel Bonds and a member of the Board of Directors of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York. He has long been active in the American Friends of the Hebrew University.
