An unusual picture never before witnessed in Paris was seen at the Paris railway station when the first group of French Chalutzim, consisting of about 30, left for Palestine. Over a thousand Jews came to the station to bid farewell to the first pioneers. Youth from Hashomer Hazair and Hechalutz formed a special guard of honor and Palestinian songs and dances filled the air. Special reductions for future groups of Chalutzim proceeding to Palestine were promised by the French railway authorities who were present at the station. A second group of Chalutzim is scheduled to leave for Palestine towards the end of March.
Altogether 350 applications of Jews desiring to go from France to Palestine were received at the Palestine office in Paris, but only a fraction of the applicants could be allotted certificates. The Palestine office in Paris has therefore decided to ask the Palestine executive to allot them in the next term a larger number of certificates.
