More than 400 Jewish business and philanthropic leaders tonight launched the 1962 national campaign for the Joint Defense Appeal, at a dinner inaugurating a drive for $6,100, 000 for programs to combat bigotry and prejudice and promote democratic liberties. The JDA is the fund-raising arm of the American Jewish Committee and the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith.
Harry Brandt, motion picture exhibitor and civic leader, was honored at the dinner with an award for his “distinguished leadership on behalf of human rights.” The principal address was delivered by Dore Schary, playwright and producer.
