The Jewish community of Madrid has received permission to open a synagogue, the first to function in Madrid since the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492.
Madrid Jews now hold services in a private home, although Barcelona Jewry uses-two “unofficial” synagogues located in the Jewish Community Center, It was reported that the Madrid Jewish community had been seeking permission to open an “official” synagogue more adequate to the community’s needs.
