Dr. Moshe Davis, provost of the Jewish Theological Seminary, left today for Israel to deliver a series of lectures there on “The Jew in American Civilization “–under the joint auspices of the Jewish Agency and the American Jewish Tercentenary–in connection with the 300th anniversary of Jewish settlement in this country. A statement issued by the Jewish Agency said:
“This series of lectures is another important project in our program of cultural reciprocity between the United States and Israel. Under this program, we have brought American students and teachers to Israel, and Israel students and teachers to the United States for the purpose of synthesizing differences and emphasizing the affinity between the two cultures, both of which have common Hebrew roots. We regard it as a matter of the greatest importance for the people of Israel to learn from an authority the full and fascinating story of the role of American Jews in American civilization, and the history and character of the Jewish community. “
