The Jewish population in the Nazi puppet state of Croatia has been reduced from 35,000 to 6,000 in the course of one year, according to a report published in the Nazi newspaper Grenzbote reaching here today.
The report which comes from Zagreb, capital of Croatia, states that most of the Jews there have been deported “abroad” to islands now under Italian control, while others have been put in concentration camps. Several thousand Jews have been sent to work in salt mines under the most difficult conditions and a number of them have died from lack of drinking water, insufficient food and lack of medical aid.
The question of mixed marriages has not yet been solved by the authorities in Croatia, the report states. The existing anti-Jewish legislation has so far not been applied to Jewish men and women married to non-Jews. The children of such families are not allowed to attend secondary schools or universities, but can still attend elementary schools.
