Lt. (j.g.) Edward F. Binder, 26, Naval Air Corps, of Jersey City, N.J., Holds the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and a Navy commendation for heroism as pilot of a carrier based plane in the South Pacific, the Jewish Welfare Board reported today.

On one occasion, he scored a hit on a Japanese destroyer escort near French Indo-China which resulted in the sinking of that vessel. He has taken part in numerous raids in the Luzon, Formosa and South China Seas areas. His group struck blows at Japanese shipping near the Philippines and off the South China coast while blasting the enemy’s supply lines. Later they hit Okinawa and other Nansel Island and supported the landings at Iwo Jima.
