Proposed settlement of German Jewish refugees in the Argentine Republic was discussed today in the speech of Sir Leonard Cohen, president of the Jewish Colonization Association, at the annual meeting of the association.
Sir Leonard revealed that the association purchased 59,158 acres of Argentine land this year, bringing the total land possession of the Jewish Colonization Association in the Argentine to 1,525,813 acres. Of this total, 547,568 acres are already owned by Jewish colonists, while 534,728 acres are immediately available to thousands of agriculturally suited Jewish families, including German Jewish refugees.
The president of the Jewish Colonization Association declared that Palestine also offers increased possibilities for the settlement of many Jewish families as the result of the agreement reached between the association and the American Emergency Committee.
In reviewing the activities and achievements of the association, in Canada and Brazil as well as various other parts of Europe, and the cooperative activities conducted by the American Joint Reconstruction Foundation, Sir Leonard praised the HICEM, combined Jewish immigration organization, for the intelligence with which Jewish emigration to various parts of the world was carried out.
Sir Leonard finished his speech with a eulogy on the late Emile Meyerson, director of the Jewish Colonization Association, and well-known philosopher and writer on philosophical subjects, who died in Paris two weeks ago.
