Jewish and Polish officials placed wreaths Sunday at the monument to the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. Representatives of the Israeli Embassy read Kaddish during the ceremony, which marked the 56th anniversary of the uprising by 200 young Jews who decided to fight when Nazi troops began to liquidate the ghetto on April 19, 1943. Most of the 60,000 people remaining in the ghetto at the time were killed during the uprising, which was crushed after three months.
