Israeli Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai is reportedly at odds with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over a meeting Mordechai is slated to hold in the coming days with Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat’s deputy, Mahmoud Abbas. Netanyahu is reported to be balking at his defense minister’s request that he be given the authority to conclude a deal with Abbas that would break the 16-month impasse in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.
