An Israel Foreign Ministry spokesman denied today a report from London that Belgium-made “Uzi” submachine guns were among the equipment captured by United Nations troops in Katanga.
The spokesman, in his comment on the report by the London Observer, said he had nothing to add to a recent statement in the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, by Deputy Defense Minister Shimon Peres that the Israel contract with the Belgian firm permitted transfer of the Israel-developed weapons to a third country only after consultation with Israel.
